i've found that the most gentle henna mix for my hair is simply henna
powder, hot water, and a few spoonfulls of olive oil. i know this
goes against the idea that acidic liquid is always needed to make
henna do its thing, but the heat from the water will get it going
just as well.

i think when people complain of henna drying their hair, it's because
they've used really crummy henna or have used it over other chemical
treatments. good henna on healthy natural hair should give you
nothing but pretty red shine.

hope that helps.

: Hello,
:
: Hi, Catherine. I emailed you the beginning of this week, so I just
: thought I'd try you here. I ordered some henna from you and can't
: wait!
:
: Well, I've never ever ever, dyed, or done anything chemical to my
: hair, except for a perm back in the 6th grade, and I'm 25 now. I
: have waist length, dark brown hair, that i think has some red
: hightlights in it. It's very healthy so I'm still kinda nervous
: about doing this. I'm not one to cut of their hair if something
goes
: bad. I really needed a change, but I don't want scary hair. How
can
: I get deep, dark red. I keep hearing about drying out hair with
: henna, and I definately don't want to ruin my healthy head of hair.
:
: Will coffee work as good as lemon juice? How bout some cloves
mixed
: in? Do I have to strain it then afterwards? Please, I need some
: advice and reassurance. Thanks. -Keri
