I have used henna in the past : (Light Mountain, Rainbow, Lush) and just added water. I always got : that orange/rusty hue --- it faded after a week or so. But, I just : ordered some body-grade henna, so I am hoping with the right "prep" : and good henna, I will get less orange. Hi! I am glad to say that the colour has settled down quite a bit. Its now day 5 and a LOT of the orangey tones are gone. The underneath of my hair (especially around the back of the neck) was a funny, flat light golden brown colour, and I LOVE the way the henna took to those hairs! Its a deep mellow cherry wood colour. If only the rest of my head took the same! Some of the whispy hairs at the "sideburns" if you will, dyed a rather day-glo orange! The coppery ends of my shoulder length hair are also still pretty orangey but the overall effect is of a deep shiny rust red. Still a VERY far cry from my original colour. When you used the commercial brand hennas, did you always go for red or try different shades? I am learning to like what I have got now (BTW, I used body art quality I ordered from one of Catherine's listed suppliers) but I would still be very interested in eliminating the orange. I would give anything to get a deeper "cherry wood" type red. The body art quality certainly does produce copious dye so you probably will find a deeper result than you've had before, but maybe on redheads some form or orange is inevitable? I'm dying to hear how you get on.
