I want to Henna but need advice

So...here's the situation:
I dye my hair with a store bought dye. I want to switch to henna
products for many reasons. How should I go about doing this
switchover since I can't use henna over my current dye without
disaster? Should I have a colorist "strip" my hair and then henna???
