Hennas turned my hair ginger. posted by karen dolton on April 21, 2004 at 09:45:59: : Hi there. Hope some one can help me. Used henna for the first time: yesterday. i have mousy brown hair and wanted some thing that wouldnt : damage my hair. henna seemed perfect. I wanted a red colour but after : leaving it for 5 hours like i was recommened it turned my hair a : bright ginger colour. I believe i shouldnt put a chemical dye over it : so what do I do? Please help me im so embarrased!! Hi Karen, Hang in there! I nearly died when I saw how bright and orangey my hair was after my first henna, and I had done loads of strand tests to know what to expect. The first 2 days I was in a state of shock and wondering if I would need to do something to try to fix it, however within a week the colour had mellowed and settled down TREMENDOUSLY! I absolutely love it now and can't believe I panicked ( I had learned here that the immediate result was NOT the final colour, but after all it was on my head!! I can laugh now.) I now know in future to henna over the weekend when I don't have to appear in public for a few days! Give it several days at least; mine continued to change for a week. It WILL settle down. If you still don't like it, its possible that re- hennaing would cause the colour to deepen further and not be so shockingly bright. The change from light brown to bright copper is a lot to get used to, but chances are you'll find yourself liking it as you grow accustomed to it. do come back to let us know how you got on.
