Indigo dye release

how permanent is indigo? Mine seems to wash out pretty quickly, I henna
first and then indigo. My indigo mix is just with water, would any other
ingredient help? Someone suggested egg and indigo, I tried it, but the dye
release was not as good as with plain water. Does the ph of water matter,
would filtered water be better?
