I think there is definite confusion about indigo.

I have heard that indigo needs to be ‘fermented’ in an alkaline
solution but I am not sure how to go about doing this either. If I
leave indigo paste sitting around in a plastic bag for too long it
will turn dark blue. So it will have already oxidized before I have
a chance to use it.

Maybe I need to put the paste into an airtight jar so that the oxygen
has no chance to get to it or maybe I need to make the paste extra
wet and soupy to ferment. Unfortunately I don’t really have time to
experiment. Should I ever do that I will report back with the
results.
