may as well de-lurkPosted by eye of newt on April 28, 2004 at 00:00:56: I used to post infrequently on the Henna Page forum as eitherygg or krasota, I think... mostly to provide info about PPD when folks were just starting to look for info. I'm one of those people who was lucky enough to be patch tested for PPD before she ever had an accidental reaction to it... and based on the patch test reaction (it was a doozy), I can never be near PPD. Fortunately, I don't react to the black dyes used in textiles. I'd have to become a mopey goth in red or something instead of a perky goth. I've been using henna for years. I bought my first package at a mall in Sweden while on a GSUSA trip. I bought more from an herbalist in my county in Indiana for several years. Now I buy it in bulk at the local co-op (I currently live in VA). I have a feeling it's Light Mountain, so I'll probably start looking into buying in bulk from a Pakistani or Indian distributor in a year or so. I need to clear out some freezer space first. ;) The henna I buy works perfectly well, but I don't know that I absolutely trust the labelling. I suppose it's fine, since it's for my hair, but I have a lot of allergies and have cause to be wary. I'll probably link some pictures eventually. I just hennaed my hair Thursday, so as soon as we get a sunny day, I'll likely find the camera. I have no clue what my natural color is. My entire life, it has ranged from cornsilk blonde to chestnut brown to strawberry blonde to light brown... always red highlights. I hennaed sporadically from ages 17-21. In my early twenties, my natural color became distinctly red-gold for a few months and I decided it was time to stay a basic color for awhile. I've also found that henna seems to condition my hair nicely, despite the nasty city water we use here. I'll link to a picture from a week and a half ago... it appears my natural color at the roots is a light brown with red highlights. If I let it grow, it would probably be a calico blend of gold, brown, and red... maybe. ygg
