EucalyptusPosted by Elettaria on April 29, 2004 at 18:34:21: In reply to: Re: "Everything is poison, nothing is poison" posted by kavi on April 29, 2004 at 13:21:07: There are lots of different species of eucalyptus. Globulus, radiata, smithsonii and so forth. Just like rose oil could be rosa damascena, rosa centifolia, rosa moschata; or lavender could be lavandula angustifolia, lavandula vera; and so on. Knowing which species you have is generally useful, especially if you want a milder version. Yup, it could still be adulterated. I'm talking about oils used in clinical aromatherapy and therefore for medicinal purposes. As far as I know, a large quantity (quite possibly the majority) of the oils on the market are adulterated, it's a world-wide scam. The really good companies test all their oils to see whether the suppliers have adulterated them. Kobashi was out of jasmine for a couple of years because they couldn't find an unadulterated one anywhere. It's more common with the pricier oils like rose, jasmine, neroli (and melissa is unlikely to be real melissa at all); I don't know how common adulteration is with eucalyptus. The main point is just make sure that you trust your supplier, really.
