: 1) Lucilla has posted that urine+indigo makes hair grow darker. Have
: you any experience with this "recipe" :))

I have worked with indigo and wool and urine, and indigo and hair
without urine.

Urine and other alkalines open up the scales on the shaft of the hair
fiber, and that gives the dye moleclue more room to settle in. Indigo
also does its job better in an alkaline environment, whereas henna
works better in an acidic medium. People who specialize in natural
dyeing and spinning of wool often work woad and indigo with sheep
urine. Urine does a great job with wool ... makes it glossy ... but
if you've been socialized to find urine repulsive, there are other
things that do the job that come in pretty bottles with nice fragrances,

You can darken hennaed hair with alkalines as is sometimes done on
skin, but I would NEVER recommend it, because accidentally splashing
alkalines into your eyes is EVIL, and alkalines trash your hair. They
trash your skin too ..... however, urine is a dilute ammonia. If you
wash your hair with urine, it helps make it glossy, and kills headlice
nits, but urine carries a condemnation in our society that prevents
people from doing that. If you MUST do this, cow urine is more
plentiful, and smells a bit less nasty.

: 2) My henna paste is streaking red dye now, is it time to apply in
: the hair

Go for it!

: 3) should hair be wet before henna?

I do clean, but not wet.

: Thanks for the help.

Glad Jeremy Rowntree got this scripted so quickly so we could get this
up for you! Hope you stop in here often, and wander around as the
place gets built!
