henna & non-permanent chemical dye?

Hello all,

I've been reading about "henna and chemical dye don't mix" everywhere
but what about non-permanent chemical dye? Can I use henna once my
hair returns to its natural colour? Unfortunately I doubt I can test
the stuff before I do it as my hair is quite short and it doesn't
fall out much so this is why I'm asking. :D
