So I finally get my haircut yesterday. While there, I ask if by any
chance...though I highly doubted, figured it didn't hurt to
ask...they did henna. Well, the 2 girls behind the counter
automatically assumed I meant tattooing. Uh, no I meant for hair.
Hair?? What?? They had no clue. So then as I was getting my hair
cut I was chit chatting w/that lady and said something along the
lines of I couldn't believe they didn't henna hair here, they really
should. She gasped as well. Then come to find out..the lady grew up
in Africa and the middle east and was quite familiar
w/hennaing..said she used to use 'the natural one with no color' on
her hair when she was there. But then she came over here to go to
school and 'found out how bad henna was for your hair' So I
politely corrected her. I said 'no actually it's quite good for your
hair, leaves it soft and all....' And she proceeded to tell me all
she'd learned here in school, how it's damaging to the hair and
such. I chuckled and told her it was not true. That I've done a lot
of research lately because I'd really like to henna my hair. And in
my research found out how wonderful henna is for you. Then she
talked about how it will not dye well, wash out and such. Uh, no, it
stains the hair and as your hair grows you can cut it off/out as you
would other dye. Anyhow...I don't know enough about it myself to
have REALLY given her the 'what for' about it but..had fun anyhow,
with what I do know.
I just found that rather interesting...ending up speaking with
someone quite familiar w/hennaing in their culture then they had
come over here to be so misinformed Hmmp
