I call this my henna tea, I use it to mix henna paste with:

One cup of extra brewed orange peko tea (use decaf if you want)
this is for the yellow-brown tannin in the tea (helps the henna
tannin stick??)

One cup of extra brewed red herbal tea(the Celestial Zinger kind)
this is for natural red highlights

1 or 2 teaspoons of clove powder mixed in about 1/2 a cup of water
let it brew 3-5 minutes and then strain through a sive lined with a
peace of cloth (realy reddens up the dye, nice antibacterial
properties)
WATCH!! clove can irritate the scalp don't use if you're allergic!(do
a patch test first)

3-4 tablespoons of lemon juice

brew each seperately and then mix all together makes roughly 2 1/2
cups of liquid which you can then use to mix your paste to a desired
consistancy.

It should be a dark redish brown and taste pungent and acidic and
bitter...just perfect!

have fun!
