Henna is a subtractive color. It subtracts everything but reddish brown from your
existing color, but since black has no color left, it's still black. You might try
bleaching your hair. From what others have said, peroxide bleaches melanin but
leaves lawsone alone. I've never tried it; my hennaed hair is brown with reddish
highlights, and I like it that way.
