If I'd only found you sooner...Posted by Jenny on May 20, 2004 at 12:55:31: I just hennaed my hair for the first time Wednesday night while myhusband was out of town. I used the Avigal Henna Red that I bought through justforredheads cosmetics company--I wanted to try to keep a "natural" looking red and still save some money by avoiding the increasingly expensive trips to the salon. It was getting pricey trying to keep my natural color (medium brown with lots of grey) RED! :-) While I'm relatively pleased with the outcome--I didn't experience any bad reaction between the henna and my commercially-colored hair-- I also didn't know that the dye needed to release, that the color may change in the next few days, or that there are other ways to alter the dye itself to produce different colors. I feel like a completely ignorant henna-girl! Thanks for all of the info on this site. I'm happy to have found it and look forward to experimenting with my own recipes in the future. A couple of questions, though: 1. How does the length of time affect the outcome? I left it on about an hour, but some of you have left it on overnight??? wow. 2. Why does the color continue to change in the days following application? 3. How does waiting for the dye to release affect the color? 4. When you post recipes for mixed, how much of each ingredient did you use? TIA!
