Black henna for darker hair

Going through the forum I notice every one is first using normal
henna and only then applying indigo for a darker shade.
However I have bought some Black Henna (for hair)packets from Dubai
and they say to apply directly to the hair for a glossy black shine?
Is this correct?
The word indigo is not mentioned anywhere on the packet just black
henna.
Or must I first appply normal henna amd then only this black to get a
finish like kristens mom???
Puzzled so please advise......
