ThanksPosted by Jane on May 23, 2004 at 16:46:23: In reply to: Curious--Question for those of you with grey hair and/or ash colored hair--should I go red? posted by Jane on May 22, 2004 at 15:08:25: Thanks for all your thoughts and perspectives.I love the thread Catherine started. As a relatively young woman, I can tell those of you who are "wiser" that I very much look forward to growing into myself as the years go by. I admire young women and older women, all for different reasons. But when I aspire to be like someone, it is always the older, confident woman--they impress me the most. Just my thoughts... Jane : Some of you may remember my earlier posts--I have been experimenting : with black walnut hulls, indigo, camomile, senna and a little henna : to even out the color in my naturally dark ash blonde/brown hair that : has been bleached. I have had some success, but my hair, of course, : is still not an even color and is much warmer than my natural shade, : meaning I will continue to have two-toned hair no matter what I do! : The bleaching, toning, and plant dyes have given it a red tone, and : there is just no good way to change that without heading to the : synthetic dyes, which I do NOT want to touch. I really wanted to get : away from hair dyes all together, but it seems impossible without : chopping my hair. : : On some days I like the red tones, though, and I am considering : stopping the fight against the red tones all together and just : heading to pure Henna Land. Those of you in the "Mixes" section make : it look sooooo beautiful!!!! However, I know using henna is a real : commitment, which brings me to my question for those of you with grey : hair. I have had one grey hair on my head in my life (I'm 30), but I : am planning ahead and want to know REALLY just how well can henna : cover grey, and at what point is there just too much grey to cover? : If I go to henna, it will be a long-term decision, because I have : long hair and do not wish to cut it. : : Just as I started pondering going red with henna I saw an elderly : woman who appeared to be using henna to cover her nearly 100% grey : hair. Her hair was an unattractive orange color. I know some of you : report that you have grey hair, but your pictures in the mixes : section look GREAT, nothing like the woman I just mentioned! Is this : because only a small percentage of your hairs are grey, or is it : because you are using higher quality henna? Do you plan to continue : to henna as you acquire more and more grey hair? Just curious to : hear feedback from those who have used henna for years and are : covering up a significant amount of grey hair. I don't know why, but : I typically look 30 years in the future when I make decisions (except : when I made the DUMB decision to bleach my hair...) : : Also, as I mentioned, I have dark ash blonde/brown hair. My skin is : a light olive tone (more yellow than red but definitely fair), and my : eyes are multi-colored (mostly green and brown, but spotted with : blue). My ancestors were English, Northern European, German, : Scottish, Irish, and Native American so my "coloring" is a mix of all : of those, which leaves me a bit color-challenged when it comes to the : whole "Autumn, Summer, Winter, blah, blah, blah" classification. I : am having a really tough time deciding if I would look good as a red- : head. Any thoughts? Has anyone with my "coloring" gone to henna? : How does it look? : : Any thoughts on henna with grey hair and red hair with my "coloring" : are very welcome. This site is wonderful. Kudos to Catherine!! : Thanks a bunch!!!! : Jane
