I very effectively and safely highlighted my hair with a
peroxide/ammonia commercial highlighting kit. I did tests first, and
not a single reaction. I think that what we know about henna
reactions with chemical, commercial dyes being bad combinations is
because of the many, varied, totally adultered 'henna's out there. I
know exactly what is on my head, because I mix it myself and it never
came out of a box. But, some 'henna's contain nasties like metallic
salts (most commonly silver or copper nitrates), which turn blue or
green, respectively, when introduced to ammonia or peroxide (can't
honestly remember which). Henna hair disasters seem, to me, to be
the product of crap henna and poor information, NOT good henna and
lots of strand tests.
