Actually, I find it easier to put everything into a plastic bag.

I put the powder into a plastic Ziploc bag (cheaper ones work better)
and add the liquid. Then I zip up the bag and knead everything
together to mix. I find that I can massage out the lumps easier that
way and it keeps the powder from flying around. Then I get an
airtight container (like a large Mason jar), place a white facial
tissue in the container and place the bag of henna paste on top.
Then close the container and let sit for several hours. Lift up the
bag to check for an orange stain on the tissue. That will tell you
when you have dye release. The best part is you don’t need to wash
bowls or spoons.
