You'll have to experiment and see how long you can go between washings - like Diane, my curly hair needs water every day, so I at least spritz it with a mix of hyacinth oil and water or rinse it and scrunch it. Before hennaing I usually went 4 days between conditioner washings, and after hennaing it hasn't changed. At first I was aghast at the thought of not using shampoo on my hair. How could I possibly get it cleam without loads of suds? So I decided to try conditioner washing over a weekend where I could just get back in the shower if I ended up looking or feeling gross. I was thrilled and surprised to find that my hair was soft, clean, and manageable. I got loads of compliments from people on how my hair looked. Let your scalp and hair tell you when you need to wash it, even if it goes against what you used to do.
