How long have you been using henna and what brand do you use?25 years. I started out with Egyptian (?) brand -- you could find it in drugstores in the 70s and 80s in a beige can with Isis on it. I thought the can was cool -- I love ancient Egyptian history, and so I decided to try this stuff that was used in Ancient Egypt on my hair... I think the stuff actually has more clay than henna, but it colored and conditioned my hair and made it look special. I was totally hooked. I graduated to Rainbow henna in college, then used British brands when I lived in Britain. When I moved back to the states I started doing henna body art, so I've been using body art henna ever since. Less grit, fresher, brighter stain. : : 2. How long do you usually leave your henna on for? 1/2 hour to 3 hours -- depends on how much free time I have and how long it's been since I last hennaed. : : 3. How often do you use henna? 4-8 weeks depending on free time and root-showing : : 4. Do you still use a protein conditioner or protein deep : conditioning treatment? Yes. I sometimes mix one in with my henna goop. Or I'll use it the week before I finally get around to henna-ing -- just b/c my hair is starting to really misbehave and needs help. THe conditioning tx is a stopgap until I can henna. : : 5. What is your method for removing the henna from your hair? Do you : use shampoo, conditioner or just plain water? : Do you wash it out in the shower or sink? Plain water. I used to do it in the shower, but now my shower is draining slowly so I've moved to the kitchen sink... : : 6. What benifits if any do you feel you get from henna? Shiny, healthy hair, gorgeous color. UV protection for my hair. Less frizz, more curl (I live in a dry climate so my curl usually doesn't happen unless I henna).
