How long have you been using henna and what brand do you use?Ummmm...what year is it *wink* I started hennaing my hair 1999, my daughter's a year or so later. To start with I was using Avigal henna because it was all I could find here and because I didn't have the freezer room to store the good stuff for use on my hair. For my daughter's short hair I would use a little Avigal mixed with whatever leftovers from doing body art henna I had on hand. Now that I'm out of military houseing and have storage room I use Castle Arts Indian powder for my hair and still use the Jamallia leftovers for the kiddo's mixed with the Indian powder. I will also confess to a couple of times a year using the Avigal black which as far as I can tell is a henna/indigo mix just because I like the results once I go over that with the good henna. : 2. How long do you usually leave your henna on for? Anywhere from 2 to 6+ hours. I prefer to henna my hair just before bed, throw an old sheet over my side of the bed and pillows and crash for the night, then rinse out my hair in the morning. For my daughter we usually leave it in for a couple of hours at the most. : 3. How often do you use henna? Preferably every month but time doesn't always allow for that so sometimes we're two to three months in between. : 4. Do you still use a protein conditioner or protein deep : conditioning treatment? Just a green tea conditioner left on for a couple of minutes, mainly so I can manage to get a comb through the knots my hair seems to love to tie itself into when I wash it. My daughter only conditions her hair once or twice a month with the same conditioner. : 5. What is your method for removing the henna from your hair? Do you use shampoo, conditioner or just plain water? Do you wash it out in the shower or sink? When we lived in military houseing we'd just rinse the henna out in the shower. Now that it's my own house with plumbing I have to pay to fix if it clogs up, we go in the back yard and use the hose to get out the worst of the henna, then wash the last bits out in the shower. We shampoo our hair with a henna shampoo and then a little green tea conditioner to make sure we got all the last bits of mud. : 6. What benifits if any do you feel you get from henna? My hair is mid back length and used to get that frassled looking 'v' at the back only a couple of days after being trimmed. Now it keeps the nice straight across trim on the ends, is easier to comb out, is silky without a ton of products, gets me tons of compliments and the most important I'm not killing myself with chemicals to get the red tones I love. For my daughter, it makes her thin baby fine hair thicker, silkier, an incredible shade of red that gets her tons of compliments and makes her easier to find on the playground after school...LOL.
