past henna problemsPosted by Pam F. on June 8, 2004 at 12:08:59: I just wanted to post re the henna problems that I have had in thepast. I recently had posted that after hennaeing and then applying a vinegar rinse that I had allot of burning on my head. Well, I found a sore/warty kind of thingy (oooh, gross!) on the top of my head! That is probably what was causing the burning when I put the vinegar on before. Also, I used the actual product that I got from the Indian supplier on the suppliers page and it had no green dye in it at all! I think that I had gotten indigo mixed in the sample that I had tried before! Note: don't try to henna when you have got allot of other irons in the fire or are very tired or sick! I left the henna on for 8 hours this time, mixed in about 1/2 cup of walnut powder with it (terped it a little with some marjoram eo that I made myself). I loved the way that it turned out! Much deeper color, and I notice no huge difference in it and the other henna powder that I used, although I did not leave the jamila on nearly as long as this one. I do notice that the hair that I have that has some brown in it naturally takes up the walnut powder and not the henna so I really have two-toned hair...brown underneath and red auburn on top! But as I did have silver hair for a long time I don't mind the affect, actually, I like it! Oh, I mixed the henna powder up with mostly lemon juice and a little olive oil (I don't think that I used any water) in an old ziplock freezer container, put a piece of gladwrap on top, then a piece of white paper towel (to show dye release), then the lid, then covered with cloth and put on a heating pad for a couple of hours to wait for dye release. I think it showed dye release in about 3- 4 hours?? Then when it showed a very strong dye release after this time, I removed it from the heating pad and just left covered on the bar overnight. I had prepared the pasted right before I went to bed the night before I hennaed. Oh, I also put some leave in conditioner in my hair and left it on all night because I have split ends and frizzies. Then when I got up the next AM I applied the henna. It only took half as much as I used before, the gloop was very silky going on..I did terp with a little eo I had and add the walnut powder and hour before I put it on my head. I left it on about 8 hours then washed it out and reapplied the leave on conditioner. Two days later, it is very much more silky than it was before. I think that the indigo powder that I was mixing with the henna was making my hair kind of dryish (lack of better word here). Finally, I would like to say that I found this henna very satisfactory for the results that I have gotten from it! Also, that I love reading all of the posts on here about your hair! If anyone has any suggestions as per my post that is fine.
