I can't see myself ever doing it any other way. I do a variation where I put the stuff (henna and additives) in tea bags (very large ones and a few of them). You can also tie off coffee filters. Then I soak the henna in warm water for dye release (however many hours you usually wait). I do the pectin, thickening, boiling step separately so I don't have to boil the henna. After dye release from your henna, you can take out the henna, and you'll have a concentrated dye that you can add to the pectin thickened paste.
