Question regarding natural oils in Hair and when to apply Henna and/or Indigo

Chemical coloring treatments always suggested waiting a day or two
after washing hair before coloring it--in order to allow natural oils
on the head to penetrate the hair shaft (which would supposedly help
the color adhere). Does this rule of thumb pertain to henna and/or
indigo treatment as well?
