Adding Paprika for more red

I am doing the first henna'ing of my hair soon. I did a test on some
harvested hair of both just plain henna and some with paprika. My
question is how do I know how much paprika to add to my henna to get
a good "tint"? I have thick hair (5 inches around a pony tail). I
ordered 500 g of henna but don't think that I will need that much.

Any thoughts on the paprika? Thanks for helping a newbie.
