My all-time favourite is rosemary. Other good ones include cedarwood,
lemon, lavender, patchouli, ylang-ylang. Look up their properties,
but as long as you don't go for anything that's going to irritate your
skin (avoid the likes of clove oil), you should be fine, just go for
what scent you like.

That said, I did a sort of cassia treatment. The only cassia I could
get was in blends with other herbs. I can't remember how much I added
in the way of essential oils, but the scent didn't last all that long
afterwards. And to be honest, I'm not sure the treatment was worth
all the hassle, as I don't think the effects lasted more than a week.
Herbal vinegar rinses seem to be the key for me, as well as a good
shampoo and conditioner. Everyone always tells me how lovely my hair
smells, and in fact it has its own fan club.

Two essential oils I have used in final rinses where I've noticed that
the fragrance really did linger until the next time I washed it (twice
a week) are patchouli and sandalwood. Sandalwood is pricey, so that
one's only for special occasions.
