Question re: henna

I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to actually henna my hair (I'm
so afraid I won't like it, like it'll end up brassy, bright red on my
dark blonde hair and the only option would be to cut off my hair since
the color difference would be so major; no way, I've been growing it
for too long!), but I've thought of doing a henna glossing. However,
I thought I'd read that each time you henna, the color doesn't stay
the same but it will continue to darken until it reaches a peak, and
only after that it will keep that color consistently? If that's true,
then if I regularly do glossings (to cover what grows out), won't my
hair just keep getting darker and darker rather than just keeping a
highlight? Or isn't it true?
