lightening henna?

I've been reading all the posts tha I could find about toning down the red and have some
plans as soon as my indigo and the new heat cap I ordered arrive. But there's another
question. Is it possible to lighten up the stain and still get good non orange coverage on
gray? Will it help to mix the henna with cassia?

Also--does cassia have an astringent effect similar to henna which will keep hairs from
pulling out easily--I much appreciate not losing hairs if I so much as run my fingers
through my hair, which has been the case since I hennaed.
