: thx a lot, Debra, for bringing up these questions. They're puzzling me
: aswell, but now that i decided the 2-step-process gives me the colour
: i want, i'm just happy with the result - and eager for someone to
: prove me wrong and find out that gelling indigo is possible, after all..
:
: Never thought i could dye my hair so dark (even my greys!) just with
: henna and indigo! I prefer using health store herbals w/low quality
: indigo, though, because i'm a bit afraid really good indigo might turn
: me completely blue-black, which would perhaps be nice but too much
: commitment for me. It was already quite exciting to put on that low-q
: indigo stuff on my whole head - and worth it ;)
:
: I once tested Catherine's indigo on a hairball, first henna, then
: indigo, and it went completey black with a lovely purple hue. Very
: nice if you want to go real dark and black, but that would be too much
: of a hassle for me to keep up with, to get it all even and that, every
: 4 months. I'm happy starting now at the top, with covering my greys
: brown-black, and curious already to see them grow and what repeated
: applications over the years will make me look like ;)
:
: hooray for henna and indigo!

: elektra

Now you have me thinking, less burgandy(50/50 mix) and more brown
would be better (suffering from the oxidation blues again).

I still have plenty of Catherine indigo left, maybe a quick dash of
straight indigo could be a good thing.

Back to lab for some more tests to perfect the brown vs blue/black.
Fortunately the dye release is pretty quick with indigo, unfortunately
it is so strong.

I may make mix some lemon juice in just before applying so see if I
can slow it down a bit. A 15-20 minute to pure black doesn't leave a
lot of room for error, especially give the time it takes to slap it
on. Indigo is very crumbly compared to henna (thus your obsession
with geling it I suppose), probably more difficult to even out. I wish
I had some cassia to add to the mix.

Has anyone else used the 2 step process to make brown with Catherine's
indigo and henna? Any timing or indigo mix suggestions?
