Get a Patch TestPosted by txilar on July 17, 2004 at 13:37:35: In reply to: PPD posted by Patti on July 17, 2004 at 12:07:49: Hi Patti,The most thorough solution I can suggest is to go to a doctor to have a patch test done. There are tests to determine if one is allergic to PPD. Since being allergic to PPD can affect your ability to come into contact with black dyes in clothing, as well as many medications and sunscreen, I would, myself, feel much better knowing for certain rather than anecdotally! Following is a link to TRUE testing. Failing that, I'd try dermatologists locally and tell them exactly what you are wanting to find out. This link should give you some more info about PPD allergies themselves: http://dermnetnz.org/dermatitis/paraphenylenediamine-allergy.html peace, txilar : Hello, : : I have been doing some research on the PPD issue. I have regularly : colored my hair for a very long time. I have had no reactions with : my scalp. I am going to find out though if the color product my hair : dresser uses contains this product. The concern that I have is with : wearing black clothing. I develop a rash after wearing certain types : of clothing that are black. Not all of them cause this reaction. : Most of what does I am narrowing down to having spandex in it. I : have learned to recently swim and bought some swimmers a lot of which : have black in them. I seem to develop this rash the most severely : when wearing them. Perhaps it is the fact of being wet in them. I : have also noticed with some clothing if I sweat I develop a rash more : severely in those areas. I am not sure if anyone can enlightened me : in this forum since this seems to directly deal with hair. But, I : would be most appreciative of any suggestions anyone can offer. I am : hoping that with frequent washing of these items they may get : better. Thank you.
