My hair feels dry and rough

I just used body art quality henna from adorn henna. Mixed it with
lots of things you guys suggested including egg and olive oil since
my hair tends to be on the dry side. Well, it looks shiny, but feels
very dry and rough in texture. I've hennaed before and this has
never happened. Has anyone had a similar experience? Also, the
color came out great on the sides and back, a deep auburn, but the
top, due to some graying, is much too red for my taste. How long
does it usually take for oxidation to occur? Is there anything that
can be done to tone it down after the fact? I used very strong,
black coffee in the mix.
