Gelling & Sifting QuestionsPosted by Linda on July 27, 2004 at 16:44:40: I am starting to think that trying one of the gelled mixes might be agood idea. Partly because it would likely be easier to work into my hair without having to wet it first, and partly because the henna I have obtained has turned out to be a lot less finely sifted than I had thought it would be. However, there are a few things I wonder about: 1) Am I right to think that even the basic and slow gelled versions would make a less finely sifted powder easier to work with and to rinse out? 2a) Is the stain as good with the basic and slow gelled versions as with regular henna mixes, or do you risk a more orangey stain? 2b) And what about when using the smooth gel versions? Don't you risk losing some dye by removing the actual powder? Has anyone tried the last gelled versions, btw? 3) Can you use these gelled versions with henna and indigo mixes as well as with just henna? 4) Is it okay to use metal pots for boiling the water that mixes with the pectin, and which then gets poured into the henna, as long as you don't have the henna itself in the metal pots? 5) In case I don't dare tackle the gelling ... how could I go about sifting the henna some more myself? Oh, btw, I don't know who handles the HTML for the page with the gel mixes, but I think the third gel type doesn't have its header ("Smooth gelled henna, tedious preparation but very smooth and easily applied gel") in the right font & size. :)
