Henna on Black Hair?

Hello, everbody, just got absolutely fascinated with the whole of
Mdm CCJ's site (I've been reading it for the past three hours!)
although, having had close contact with the rich Indian culture here
(in Malaysia) I'm not unfamiliar with henna patterns and art. (When
we're trying to be funny in school, we recreate henna patterns on
our hands and legs with coloured pens.) This is the first time I've
heard of henna for hair, though.

I'm wondering, what can henna do for naturally black hair, waist
length and prone to split ends? I've always wanted to achieve to
bluish tinge, or blond highlights without commercial dyes (my hair
went to hell after several permings in my early teens and I'd rather
not go through dealing with split ends from the pits of despair
again) so I'm ultra-curious.
