I'dbeen using chemical dyes for years & like you, it was gradually frying my hair. I'd always liked red hair, so tho0ught I'd give henna a go (though I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge, if it wasn't for the wonderful people on this site!).. I've had nothing but superb results from my henna. I've always used 100% pure body art henna.. I'm guessing the people who's hair it's wrecked, have used henna with metallic oxides in, because metallic oxides really don't go with chemical hair treatments, from what I've heard. Henna is quite difficult to rinse out of you hair, anyway. I haven't noticed any rubbing off on my pillow, but for a about a week or 2 after I henna, I still get the slightly ornage water running out, when I wash my hair (I wash about every 2 days) & I get orange marks on the towel I dry my hair with, but it doesn't seem to fade the colour on my hair. The red henna stays much redder, for much longer than any chemical hair colour I've used, which have always faded in a couple of weeks. My henna does start to look 'tired' after about 4 or 5 weeks, so I just henna again! It's great, because you don't have to worry about damaging your hair, like you do with chemical dyes :o)
