: : Hello everyone :)
: : I have been reading some of your posts and am very impressed. I
am
: : trying to grow my hair out, and its doing quite nicely
(considering
: : where I started from!) Anyway, I was highlighting my hair using
: : regular hair bleach, but have since decided I do not want to be
: using
: : harsh chemicals on my hair anymore. I hennaed the bottom two
thirds
: : of my hair which had some bleach in varying intensity but left
the
: : top part alone which is the most highlighted. I was scared of
what
: I
: : would end up with but the bottom two thirds turned out nice. I am
: : wondering , do I dare risk the top part too? I know once I do, I
am
: : committed. But what i really want to know is if the henna turns
out
: : alright, will it be beneficial to my hair over the bleach or do
it
: : more damage?
: : I hate the way the bleach tends to make my hair oily. Also it has
: : been about 3 months since I used any chemicals on my hair. I
would
: : appreciate any input you could give me on this subject. I do want
: to
: : switch to the henna for the health and beauty of my hair. I dont
: want
: : to end up with thinning over-processed hair after a time. Any
: : suggestions and information would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I
: : am really enjoying your posts you all sound very health concious.

: If you've already done parts of your hair with no reaction (and
good
: results), you should be safe to henna the rest. I regularly bleach
: highlights into my hair as well as henna (I like the streaked
copper
: over auburn effect it gives), so in my personal experience you
should
: be absolutely fine. The henna not only gives me a colour I love
over
: the bleach, but makes those hairs much less brittle than they are
: right after the bleaching.

Hi Pierre and allison, I had written a long follow up, and got
booted just as I was about to post it!Arrgh aol. Anyway I was saying
thank you so much for the information from both of you it is very
helpful. Pierre I was glad to have my suspicions confirmed about the
bleach making the hair lank and greasy if not washed daily (which is
a bit harsh on the hair) and the information about the cuticles being
raised and harboring bacteria. Also Allison I am thrilled to know you
can use the henna over the highlights and it will come out a nice red
color a color I have tried to attain in the past with chemical dyes
but could never manage. And you say you can even highlight over
henna??? Wow that is great to know in case I want to brighten it up a
bit. Thank you both for your follow-ups, I am going to the health
food store as soon as they open, and buy the regular henna and do the
top part now. I will let you know how it turns out then :) thanx again
Valerie
