PPD & light hair dyesPosted by Ilithiya on February 8, 2004 at 01:41:29: In reply to: What's New at Henna for Hair: the Great PPD Rant by Txilar! posted by Catherine Cartwright-Jones on February 6, 2004 at 22:04:58: Don't want to sound like I'm ragging on Txilar - the article wasgreat, but I think that this deserves a mention here, too... "p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) is an aromatic amine compound used in almost every hair colour dye on the market, regardless of brand, except the blonde and lighter colours. That is to say almost all hair colours, except light colours, contain PPD." - Txilar's article About two months ago, I specifically checked my mom's latest box of Feria hair dye - light ash blonde, by the way - for PPD in the ingredients, and there it was. Yes, light hair dyes can, and /do/ contain PPD, or at the very least Feria does. Always, *always* check. I hate hair dyes anyway - the ammonia & peroxide reaction alone is only a shade less horrible than PPD. Illy
