I have 'fried hair,' : which actually still looks all right, but I have been considering : resuming henna, which I used to use exclusively. What I have learnt : here made me rearrange all my bathroom cupboards, move out any : remaining boxes of chemical dyes, unearth some henna, and begin : harvesting hair for a test. My hair doesn't hold the red chemical : dyes at all well - it went quite grey last year, after about ten : years of dyeing it black - it was naturally a very dark chestnut. So I : stripped the black off, lopped off a fair bit, and now have a thick, : copper auburn, shoulder-grazing mop, which I want to grow longer, and : increase the red as much as possible. So advice is welcome! : Incidentally, I currently live near Toronto; I used to get henna : there from the Body Shop chain, wwhich no longer carries it. But when : I asked, the clerk said I was about the third person that day to : enquire why not! : : Thanks to you all, : : Katherine Alexandra [you may call me whichever name you prefer] Hello Katherine :) I am new here too. This is a great site and as you can see a lot of good advice. I did the same as you and cleared out all the chemical hair colors out of my cupboard (well Im still hanging on to the bleach and sun-in at this point just in case) but dont think I will go back. Like you I am growing out my hair but have much further to go than you do. In march it was in a boy cut, now its just starting to look somthing other than extremely short. There is no comparison between naturally colored hair and chemically colored. the chemical looks dead and well chemically colored, especially after a while yuk. and you have only to look at the technique section on this site to see the difference. I have never seen so much lush shiny healthy red hair in all my life!:) Well just wanted to say hi and welcome. Happy henna-ing. Valerie
