To keep the dark brown BROWN and not add : : too much more red, maybe a mix of your liquids 3/4 very strong coffee : : 1/4 lemon/acid of choice. I'm not nearly as familiar with indigo : : (having never used it), but from what I understand, you might mix a : : little in with the henna to get the henna darker. Someone who knows : : their stuff, help! Also, my hair is the same length as yours, and I : : do it myself. I start at the top of my head and work my way down : : instead of the opposite, too. : : Wow, you do it yourself? i'd like to be able to do mine myself (it : would be easier to schedule, for one thing). Do you use a sink or the : tub? Tub, with a couple of inches of water in the bottom (Sometimes I drip, and having the water there seems to stop the henna from staining the tub, which then means I don't have to clean! Yay!). Here's the proceedure, in depth. I'm also on the mixes page. I wear a scrub shirt (mom's an x-ray tech, unlimited supply of old ones!) because it snaps up the front, so I don't have to pull it over my head, and cheerleader shorts (the short-short ones. The ones no one should wear in public, but are sooooo comfy). With a mirror in front of me, I sit on the edge of the tub, and slather it on (with gloves, of course). I tried using a carrot bag, but it was more of a pain by my self. I start at the front, and make sure that the hair for about four inches back is thoroughly coated, because I wear my hair up often. Keep grabbing chunks of hair, and coating them, piling them on top of your head as you go, leaving the ends mostly un-done (ends tend to take the most colour, and the dryness of them will help keep your hair up, too, because sticky/wet clings to dry). Once you've gotten everything on your head down to your roots, take the ends of your hair in one hand and slather on more henna with the other. Work it between all the hair, and get it really slicked over and coated. I then twist that up into a bun, and use the last bits of henna to smooth the whole creation down and catch any little bits I missed (the nape of my neck, right behind my ears). On goes the plastic shower cap, off go the gloves, wash off my ears and scalpline (last time I missed some and DID look like I got mugged with an orange popscicle). So, um, yes. You can henna your own hair, and it's a lot easier to schedule that way.
