: : About a month ago my colorist destroyed my hair by applying a
: : chemical dye twice in a row. My hair is horribly damaged from
root
: : to tip. I cannot wash or brush it properly because it is fried
and
: : breaking off. It is the worst hair damage I have ever seen, it
is
: : amazing I have any hair on my head. If I were to cut off all the
: : damage I would have a crew cut...
: :
: : NOW my question:
: :
: : In about a month and a half I am going to have my hair cut. Some
: : damage will be removed but much will remain. Since I will NEVER
use
: : chemical dyes on my hair again, I wish to use a brown dye over
my
: : red dyed hair to blend it with the roots as my naturally brown
hair
: : grows in..
: :
: : -Is it safe to used henna on hair that was chemically dyed 2
months
: : before?
: :
: : -Is it safe to use henna on SEVERELY damaged hair?
: :
: : Thanks so much, I am brand new to this and have a lot to learn!
:
: Thanks for the tip about Morocco products. As to your hair, I'm
glad
: you got some compensation, but what on earth did they use on you,
you
: poor creature?? - it sounds like Drano! What's your hair like
: underneath? If it isn't too bad, would more layering be any help?
: When you mention breakage, do you mean it's coming off at the
scalp,
: splitting about an inch from the ends, or something else? I had
to
: chop mine to eartip length last winter and still the fringe and
top
: layers, though growing out, are dry. The only other option was to
: leave a foot of dead rats' tails; and I hadn't the sense not to
carry
: on with the chemical dye even then, so I can't wait to shift it
all
: out of my system! Without this site, I might well have mowed it
all
: down again and simply started over. Definitely, hairball tests are
in
: order! I really hope it all has a happy ending for you.

Ugh. He changed the usual formula and instead of my hair becoming
red it was blonde...so he did it again immediately after and
well...you can guess the rest from there...

The bottom portion of my hair is better off than the top...but the
top (even underneath) is horrible. I am going to get a lot of short
layers, and thankfully the shaggy look is in style now because the
layers will have to be choppy and uneven all over my head.

Initially my hair was like cotton that literally dissolved in clumps
when I touched it. I have been treating it VERY gently and the
breakage seems to have really calmed down ( I have no idea how or
why becuase the hair looks CRIMPED in many areas) I have been
fortunate that it hasn't broken off near the scalp (although it
probably should have.) I've got about an inch and half of healthy
(well healthiER) hair up there.

I'm with you bye-bye chemicals (ugh) hard lesson to learn. How long
is your hair now. Did you do anything to speed up the process?

I would love to get the benefits of the henna, but I don't want to
risk any more damage. I will try the hair brush test in a month or
so but I'm not sure in my case that will be an accurate predictor. I
guess I have to see what my hair looks like after the appointment
with the weed-wacker.
