henna, chapter 2...Posted by Katherine on September 3, 2004 at 07:08:45: Yesterday I had another go, the second time in a week, and THIS timesome faint color results are visible. Not bothering to remove any of the olive oil I've been working into the hair over the past couple of days, I used 4 oz/129g of Colora Mahogany [another museum piece from the cupboard, but not quite the antique of the weekend attempt], into which I dumped the contents of three rosehip/hibiscus teabags, some warm water, and let it sit about 1 hr until I saw dye release. I left it on about 4.5 hours, and it was bloody hell getting it rinsed out - I think it had half the Sinai Desert thrown in, and it hardened onto the hair just like dried cow dung. For Mel, and for what it's worth - whereas on the first attempt, I had doubts like yours as to whether the hair was in good enough condition to henna, because it did come out rather cottony, this time it is soft, full, and feels much better than it has in some time. Still not sufficiently red for my liking, golden if anything, but at least the grey is red-gold and blends in nicely. And this is just with crappy henna! Next week or so should see what the good stuff can do, for Chapter 3 in the Hair Reclamation Project... .
