Last I heard : : about making jam, that needed acid as well. : : Many of the other sites/ directions I've read for henna just suggest : water and don't mention the lemon juice..would it not work at all or : just not as well? I'm just as new to this as you are, and I feel like a baby kitten just getting her eyes open, so don't feel alone in askng questions! I really think the acid is crucial, and never mind what 'directions' the package may give. In the past week, I've learned not to use hot water [as they sometimes tell you to do],and although I had no lemon juice, when I threw in the rosehip-hibiscus tea bags, I did get some dye release. When I get my body-art henna, I intend to use about half an orchard's worth of lemon juice!;) I have also read that you can use citric acid, those little packets of unsweetened lemonade mix, or cream of tartar - but would much prefer to hear from experienced people before experimenting with those.
