Re: carla...we have the same hair!/Question for everybodyPosted by Katherine on September 6, 2004 at 20:54:08: In reply to: Re: carla...we have the same hair! posted by Carla on September 6, 2004 at 18:26:52: : I use Avigal Henna (Auburn). I left it in for 45 minutes the first: time 1 hour the second time and I don't think leaving it in longer : would have made that much difference. I think you have to get the : first layer of dark down to get the roots to blend in. Even using old-grass-clippings Colora 'Mahogany' the other day, I found that the golden tones I got from it mean that my brown/grey roots barely show. I have ordered Catherine's henna: do you think if I just proceed with it, the new hair will blend with the presently fried, dyed copper red, as the latter picks up the henna and becomes darker? I am trying to achieve an allover dark red like that of an autumn oak leaf, and don't want any brown if I can possibly help it. [Incidentally, when I looked at 'Sarah' on the 'hennaking' site, they make all these claims about how brown it is - are there different types of 'Sarah?' - Kathleen [see below]says that hers gave very red tones, so I'm puzzled.]I'm also very excited about all this, and am really looking forward to repairing this damage...often, I read the new posts here in the middle of the night, just to learn some more...:)Please let me see if I have this right: - don't have any oil or conditioner on the hair, and a prep rinse with lemon juice or vinegar helps; -can the henna be mixed with cold lemon juice, or should it be room temperature? - I know it has to sit overnight, preferably in a closed baggie, for dye release; - put it on and let it work, head tied up in a bag or cling film, overnight if possible. Thank you so much in advance - I greatly appreciate all the kindness and help here, and hope this is not too verbose. Katherine
