The instructions written on the box of henna are worthless.Posted by Faery Ring on September 10, 2004 at 20:38:11: In reply to: Question from a beginner posted by Whitney on September 8, 2004 at 19:06:57: I have never gotten good results from adding hot water, waiting for 1hour, and then letting it sit in your hair for 1 hour. Maybe because I am trying to cover gray hairs and it is difficult even with excellent quality henna. I see those instructions as worthless and anyone who tries it that way will most likely meet with failure. Then those people will turn to chemical hair dyes because they tried that box of henna and followed the instructions written and it didn’t do anything. I know of one person who did just that. You are probably better off adding something acidic and letting it sit for several hours even if the box tells you otherwise. My mother sleeps with the henna in her hair. Just make sure to put a cotton coil around the hairline, cover with a disposable plastic shower cap, and then put a cloth-sleeping cap over it. Also place an old towel over your pillow.
