More gray experiences...Posted by DanielleN on September 12, 2004 at 13:48:28: My mom finally agreed to let me switch her over to henna fromstandard nasty hair dyes (better for the both of us!). She's about 50%+ gray right around the front, less so as you go back towards the nape of her neck. Her natural color is dark brown. I started with mixing 1.7 oz (~ 50g) of Catherines henna with 1 oz of Black Walnut Hull powder, lemon juice and Tea Tree and Lavendar EOs (terping and scent). Let that hang out in the baggie for a while until the paper I wrapped around it stained (about 6 hours). Then I mixed .9 oz (~ 25g) of Catherine's indigo with warm water, waited for dye release, then mixed them together. Slopped them on my mom's towel dried hair. Her hair is chin length and thin (but very dry and damaged from all the dying) and I used about 2/3 - 3/4 of my mix (froze the rest for next time!). It went on so lovely and smooth (compared to the Rainbow Henna crap I'd been used to using to henna my aunts hair). I wrapped her up in saran wrap and a head band to catch any drips. This was about 8 pm. I convinced her to sleep with it on (she wasn't very happy about that) and ended up washing it out at about 5 AM. I was totally paranoid, couldn't sleep, so I got up when I heard the shower running (we had stayed the night since we live about an hour away) and I was relieved. It's a bit more orange than I had hoped for, but I think it will mellow out. I offered to do indigo on top of it, but she wasn't keen on it (I think she's afraid she'll have to spend 9 more hours with indigo on her head, lol). I think we'll wait until next weekend, give the color a chance to oxidize and see where we are at. If she does decide to go with the indigo next weekend, about how long should I leave that on for... 45 minutes or so? (she doesn't want to be too too dark) Oh, we took before pictures and I'm going to take after pictures. Catherine, if you want them for your site, we'd be happy to share. ~ danielle considering hennaing her mousy dark blond hair now :-D
