Oil (as in coconut oil) is going to hinder the penetration and stain.
If you must oil you hair, do so between hennas. Not just before.
Not just after. Not during.

Oil, as in "Essential Oil" ..... "terps" .... seem to really help
people get the most out of their henna, especially on gray hair.
