Is it safe for me to henna my hair

Hi there,Thank you for your site on henna. I have tried henna once in the past
( my natural colour is auburn). After trying the henna, my hair was
very very red.
Well a few months later, a friend of mine permed my hair, the perm
was very frizzy, I still have some of the perm left, even though it
was in DEc of 2002, that I had it done.
My questions are; Do you think I can henna my hair again, and if so,
how long do i leave it on for?
I dont want it as red as it was the last time, it was quite bright.
