Henna over PPD-treated hair?

Hi all!

I was stupid enough to use Bigen black hair dye (no ammonia, no
peroxide, sounds great right?) for 4 years, till I found out what it
can do. I am a natural blonde so I have blonde roots showing. When I
stopped using bigen, I dyed my hair purple with a commercial
permanent dye, which probably contains ppd too. It just coloured my
roots purple, the rest stayed pitch black. I tried bleaching a
strand, but it remained pitch black. I do like the effect of having
purple or red roots and black hair, but I want to stop using all the
toxic stuff.

After reading about henna, I would really like to use it. Does
anyone have any experience with PPD + henna, or does anyone have any
tips?
