red roots

I have slightly graying hair. I no longer wanted to use chemicals
(hair dyes) on my hair so I began to use henna (light mountain
natural, which has a two step process). I was fairly successful the
first two applications but the last time I applied the henna my
roots turned out very red and the rest of my hair is a nice shiny
medium brown color. I don't know what to do to fix this problem.
Should I apply more or try to get remove it?
