hi - I have made gelled henna, but not with pectin, I use some other stuff (it's for
covering fruit on cakes). but I'll try to answer anyway...

: 1)I tried to make Fias Gel mix last night...however when I added the
: pectin to the boiling water and lemon juice it immediately formed
: weird brownish small meatball looking things (not tiny pectin
: lumps...I'm talking the size of small meatballs) Any idea what this
: was/why/
badly distributed pectin? just a guess

: and how to prevent?
whisk like crazy, or add it to the liquid before the liquid actually boils? don't know,
the stuff I use has to be mixed with a bit of cold liquid first and then added to boiling
liquid, - but it's not pectin so that doesn't help you.

: 2)Also when making the gel mix why do you only have to wait a half
: hour
: for die release...and with regular mixes you need to wait longer?
this is because normally you would mix your henna with cold liquid. the gel is warm,
and this makes the dye release faster once the pectin liquid is in.

: 3) I left mix on an hour and a half and got virtually no color
: change...has this happened to anyone else...and whats the minimum you
: left it on and got a noticeable result?
the minimum I left it on was two hours, I always get very noticeable results. it's
possible that you killed the henna by adding the pectin liquid when it was still too
hot, henna doesn't like that. or your henna could be stale.
