FINALLYPosted by Alison on October 2, 2004 at 02:48:19: Ugh, it's been over two months since my last henna fix, and I wasabout to curl up and die from being *gasp* a redhead with brown roots. Well, my henna came on Thursday (I used up the last of mine the last time I hennaed, then dealt with a crappy seller), and it's mixed and waiting. The process is a bit more involved this time (lots more bleaching and some manic panic, too), so I'm going to try to recruit a few friends for picture-taking so we can get a revised mix online for me. Tonight I completed step one (need to do a few touch-ups in the morning): the part where I bleach my hair. I've found that my mousy brown hair gives a very nice auburn colour with henna, but that's not the colour I crave. I want to be like Elizabeth T, or Stevie, or Blondie--that bright, BRIGHT copper--and I have since I was a little kid. Late last April, I started putting highlights in my hair before I henna, and the colour is just what I always wanted, mixed with my own auburn, and the effect is great. People think I'm a natural red- head with some highlights, which is what we all want people to think (that it's natural!). My highlights have stopped being true highlights, though, and more just a general application of bleach to my roots in a semi-sporadic pattern. Tomorrow I need to touch up a few places I didn't get the bleach on as well as usual, and glop the henna on. After that I snip a strand test (to see how long I need to get the manic panic colour I want), and bleach the strand test and a dozen-ish very defined streaks 6" or so long. On Sunday, five or six of those (depending on how much of the mix I have) will be an experiment in henna mixed with beet root powder, and the others will be Manic Panic Bad Boy Blue, hopefully kept on just long enough to get a nice baby blue colour. I will get as many pictures in the process as I can, and write up step-by-step what I've done.
